Event notifications
Choose email or webhook delivery when candidates finish and results are ready.
Choose your events
- Open an assessment, choose Settings, and find Event notifications.
- For Candidate completed or Results ready, choose Off, Email, or Webhook.
- Fill in the fields for the selected method, then choose Save notifications.
- Candidate completed runs when a candidate submits the assessment.
- Results ready runs when every answer has a finalised grade.
Email your team
Choose Email and select one to ten current organisation members. Each selected member receives the chosen event for each new candidate. Removing a member stops future delivery to that person.
These controls are separate from login codes and candidate invitation emails. Publishing an assessment does not send an event notification.
Connect a webhook
Webhooks are available on the Team and Scale plans while the subscription is active. On Starter, or with no plan, the Webhook choice is switched off and Event notifications links to Billing; email notifications are on every plan. If a plan ends or changes to Starter, the webhook configuration and its delivery history are kept, but nothing is sent: each held delivery is listed with the reason, and sending starts again by itself once a Team or Scale subscription is active.
Choose Webhook, enter a public HTTPS URL on port 443, and enter a randomly generated signing secret of 32–256 printable characters. Configure the same secret in your receiving service. SkillsDB never displays an existing secret; leave the field empty to keep it when the URL is unchanged. Changing the URL requires supplying a secret again.
Each POST body contains id, type, occurredAt, assessmentId, attemptId, and resultUrl. The type is candidate.completed or results.ready. The payload does not contain the candidate’s name, email, answers, or score. Opening resultUrl requires normal workspace access.
- X-SkillsDB-Event-ID is the stable event ID. Deduplicate this ID before processing a delivery.
- X-SkillsDB-Timestamp is the delivery timestamp in Unix seconds. Reject stale timestamps, for example those more than five minutes old.
- X-SkillsDB-Signature is v1= followed by the hexadecimal HMAC-SHA256 of the timestamp, a period, and the exact request body, keyed by your shared signing secret. Compare signatures in constant time before processing.
Check delivery status
Expand Recent deliveries in Event notifications to see pending, sending, sent, failed, or cancelled deliveries. Email sent means the mail service accepted the request, not that it reached the inbox. A failed delivery gets up to three automatic attempts; use Retry to try a failed or interrupted delivery again, up to nine total attempts.
Interrupted deliveries are also recovered by the existing hourly maintenance process. Large backlogs continue in later passes. Turning an event off or changing its configuration cancels retries from the old configuration. Notification failures do not interrupt a candidate’s submission or grading.
